INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY FOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT (ICT4D)
Long before now there was a saying thus, “it’s a small world” often used to describe the world as a small place. Today that has changed as the world is being described as a “global village”. What makes the world a global village is simply Information and Communication Technologies. The implication of the emergence of ICTs is that, ones is not computer literate you don’t belong in the world system. The Foundation set up the ICT4D Unit to provide a platform for all to have access to ICT skills. Within the first year of its inception two hundred and seventy three persons were launched into the global system, this numbers keep increasing.
Furthermore, the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), the National Examination Council (NECO), the Join Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), allkey examination bodies that launches millions of youth annually into the future of their chosen career have all turned to ICTs for their registration, examinations or issuing of results. Additionally the future of education, finance, markets, governance is generally tilting the way of ICTs. With this phenomenal advancement the individual is to either give-in to catch up or he will be left out.
Amazingly the Foundation which set up the ICT unit targeting at the youth, has so far seeing traditional leaders, women and retirees sign up to acquire the global tool for living: ICT skills.
